THE New Tokyo International Airport now has the ultimate in drive-in
washing facilities. The computerised, robot operated facility at Narita,
East Tokyo, can wash and wax a Boeing 747 in 80 minutes. The Automated Washing
System was developed jointly by Japan Airlines and Kawasaki Heavy Industry.
With mops and hosepipes, it normally takes a team of 20 people four hours
to clean the outside of a jumbo jet.
